Irving ISD’s Board of Trustees voted Wednesday to name the district’s current chief of staff as the lone finalist for superintendent.

Dorian Galindo will replace outgoing Superintendent Magda Hernandez, who announced her retirement in March. Hernandez has served as the district’s superintendent since December 2018.

Before naming Galindo to the post, the board conducted a search that included internal candidates, district officials said.

In a statement, board President A.D. Jenkins said the board thinks the district is headed in the right direction.

“Our Board wants a leader who can continue our path toward becoming the premier district for educational excellence, fostering the full potential of students and empowering educators,” he said. “We believe we have a team of administrators who can achieve excellence. The best person at this time to lead our extraordinary team of administrators, teachers, and support staff to empower our students today to excel tomorrow is Dr. Galindo.”
