Dallas police make arrest in fatal weekend shooting in Uptown

Dallas police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting in Dallas’s Uptown neighborhood on Sunday, May 3 that left one man dead, according to a news release Thursday from the department.

The 30-year-old individual is facing a charge of murder and is at the Dallas County jail, the release said. 

Officers responded to reports of a shooting shortly before 3 a.m. in the 2700 block of McKinney Avenue. Jeronimo Avila, 35, was shot by an unknown suspect who then fled the scene. He was transported to hospital where he later died.

Police did not immediately disclose a motive for the shooting or say if the victim knew the suspect.
