The department said in a news release Wednesday that the Texas Office of the Attorney General was serving an arrest warrant for indecency with a child at an apartment complex in the 3600 block of Outlet Boulevard in Fort Worth. Authorities located 36-year-old Matthew Cruz hiding in an apartment, the release said.

While near Cruz in a confined area, authorities gave commands to him, which he ignored, the release said. The officers found he was armed with a knife and they fired their weapons at him.

Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene and no officers were injured, according to the authorities.
